Our origin story
Genpact began in 1997 as a pilot within GE Capital. Just 20 employees and a goal to transform back-office operations through outstanding process efficiency. In the years that followed, we embedded Lean and Six Sigma into our DNA and built the foundations of what would become a global transformation business.
Laying the groundwork
By 2005, we had spun off from GE and begun building an independent company. We scaled quickly, expanding across India and the world – hiring tens of thousands of young professionals, which included creating meaningful employment opportunities for women. Our roots in process excellence became the bedrock of our growth.
Stepping into our own
In 2007, we became fully independent and went public on the NYSE under the symbol G. With 26,500 employees across 9 countries, we brought our expertise in process, analytics, and operations to clients globally. In 2010, we added operations in six new countries and increased our workforce by a third.
Smarter processes
We also launched Smart Enterprise Processes, a scientific, data-driven approach to transformation that earned us a patent and awards. This positioned us not just as operators, but as innovators, helping clients deliver measurable outcomes across industries.
Digital in our DNA
By 2015, we’d made New York City our key corporate office and had fully embraced digital. We introduced our Lean Digital approach, fusing Six Sigma thinking with advanced technology. Two years later, we launched Genpact Cora, our AI-powered digital business platform, to support clients’ end-to-end transformation needs.
We also expanded through acquisitions – Rage Frameworks, Barkawi, and Rightpoint, adding AI, supply chain, and customer experience design to our capabilities.
The data-tech-AI era
In 2022, we doubled down on data, technology, and AI. We refined our service lines to help clients drive transformation through digital operations. We also grew our sustainability and sustainability offerings – turning responsible business into competitive advantage.
What’s next
In 2025, we launched Service-as-Agentic-Solutions – a future-forward model blending intelligent systems with human ingenuity to deliver unparalleled value to our clients. Backed by years of applied innovation, we’re redefining what modern services can be.
