An Uncertain Forecast - Managing the cost of goods sold (COGS) amid volatile commodity and energy markets
CFO Research Services along with Genpact conducted a global survey among senior executives to look into the impact that commodity price volatility was having on their ability to accurately estimate and manage cost of goods sold (COGS).
The current climate of volatile commodity and energy prices has had a heavy toll on companies’ profit margins, risk profiles, and overall performance, according to respondents in this survey from manufacturing companies in North America, Europe, and the Far East. And while respondents generally say their companies’ abilities to assess and forecast the impact of input prices on COGS is at least adequate, very few admit to excellence in their processes and systems for managing price volatility.
